The Sixteen International Conference on Combustion and Energy Utilization (ICCEU16) Successfully Concludes at City University of Hong Kong

From February 9 to 13, 2025, the 16th International Conference on Combustion and Energy Utilization (ICCEU16) was successfully held at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). The event was well organized and successfully completed all its agendas, earning high praise from participants. Organized by Prof. Peng Zhang, as the Chair of Local Organizing Committee of the 16th ICCEU, the conference received strong support from the University, the Department of Mechanical Engineering (MNE), and the K.C. Wong Education Foundation.


Strong Support from University Leadership and Grand Opening Ceremony

The leadership of CityUHK and the MNE Department placed great emphasis on this conference. During the opening ceremony, Prof. Anderson SHUM, Vice President (Research) of CityUHK, Prof. Yong YANG, Head of the MNE Department, and Prof. Hsiao-Kang MA, Chairman of the ICCEU16 International Organizing Committee, delivered welcoming speeches.

They extended a warm welcome to experts and scholars from around the world and highlighted the importance of combustion and energy utilization in global sustainable development. The strong support and participation from the university and department leadership laid a solid foundation for the smooth running of the conference.


Record-Breaking Number of Submissions and Participants
This year’s conference attracted a large number of submissions from experts and scholars in the field of combustion and energy utilization worldwide, surpassing the scale of previous ICCEU conferences. Over a hundred high-quality papers were submitted, with contributions from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Korea, Russia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. The number of participants also reached a record high, reflecting the growing influence of the ICCEU conference in the global academic community.
 
Gathering of World-Class Scholars: Outstanding Plenary and Invited Talks

The conference featured three distinguished plenary speakers, Prof. Assaad MASRI (University of Sydney), Prof. Fei QI (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), and Prof. Carlos Fernandez-Pello (University of California, Berkeley) who are leading figures in the field of combustion science.
In addition, ten K.C. Wong Scholars delivered insightful invited talks, sharing their latest research achievements in combustion and energy utilization, further enriching the academic content of the conference.

During the conference, participants from academia, industry, and student communities actively engaged in discussions and exchanges. The conference provided a high-level platform for academic exchange, where participants delved into cutting-edge topics such as combustion science, energy utilization, and clean energy technologies. The ICCEU International Committee convened a meeting attended by distinguished members, including Prof. Ning Liu, Prof. Zheng Chen, Prof. Yuzhen Lin, Prof. Dezhen Chen, Prof. Joeng Park, Prof. C. K. Law, Prof. Hsiao-kang Ma, Prof. Assaad Masri, Prof. Peng Zhang, and Prof. Bing Wang.

This gathering served as a pivotal platform for the committee members to engage in comprehensive deliberations on the future trajectories of the ICCEU. The discussions not only reinforced academic collaboration but also sparked innovative ideas aimed at propelling advancements in the fields of combustion and energy utilization.
